BuckleySandler: The New Legal Solution for Challenges facing the Financial Services Industry
Washington, DC (March 20, 2009) - The nation's leading financial services enforcement and litigation practice, led by Andrew L. Sandler and Benjamin B. Klubes, is joining with Buckley Kolar LLP, a premier financial services law firm, to form a new firm, BuckleySandler LLP.
BuckleySandler will provide its clients with the full range of enforcement, litigation, regulatory, public policy and transactional services to meet the challenges confronting the financial services industry in an unprecedented time of turmoil and change.
The firm will deliver best-in-class legal counsel to its financial services clients, which include many of the largest financial service institutions in the United States. The new firm, with offices in Washington, DC and Los Angeles, will be opening a New York office and will initially be comprised of 40-50 experienced financial services and litigation lawyers. Andrew L. Sandler and Jeremiah S. Buckley will serve as co-chairmen of the firm.
Mr. Sandler has been the head of the Consumer Financial Services Litigation Practice at Skadden, Arps, where he practiced with partner Mr. Klubes. They have an active complex civil litigation practice, and Mr. Sandler has been the lead defense counsel in more than 70 class action cases in federal and state courts throughout the country representing banks, insurers, mortgage, credit card and auto lenders and other financial services companies.
Buckley Kolar LLP, with offices in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, has served major financial services clients throughout the country in significant regulatory, enforcement, litigation, transactional and public policy matters.
At a time when financial institutions are facing enormous business, legal and regulatory challenges and the legal architecture of the industry is expected to be restructured, the capabilities of BuckleySandler will enable the firm to provide its clients with access to a broader range of legal services, and will provide significant value to clients through efficient and effective deployment of legal resources.
"Our clients will have a direct link to the strongest team of legal advisers on compliance with state and federal financial services regulations and the added benefit of the leading enforcement and litigation practice in the country," explains Mr. Sandler. "The depth of the combined practices, along with our record of success, will provide our clients with the comfort they need during this time of economic distress."
Mr. Buckley observed, "Washington, DC is quickly becoming the epicenter of the financial services industry as its future is being shaped, and we saw this as a terrific opportunity to bring together public policy and regulatory capabilities with enforcement and litigation strength for the greater benefit of our clients."
The firm is taking the lead in the current financial services crisis by helping private equity firms, hedge funds and other investors enter the business and acquiring distressed companies and loan portfolios. By helping to shape public policy, with an intricate knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and legislative process, BuckleySandler is ideally situated to keep its clients abreast of the laws that govern the industry and how they are shaped in Congress.
Mr. Sandler will assume the title of Chief Executive Officer of Corporate Risk Advisors LLC and along with Mr. Buckley, will be leading that multi-disciplinary consulting firm, which provides compliance and risk management services to the financial services industry.
