Douglas Ganlser was quoted in Jimmy Hoover's Law360 article, "GOP Attys Would Likely Back Srinivasan To Replace Scalia," on Sunday, February 14, 2016.
Politically moderate D.C. Circuit Judge Sri Srinivasan is considered among President Barack Obama’s top choices to replace the late Associate Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and despite calls from the Republican party to block any nominee, experts say he will likely have strong support among elite GOP lawyers.
Some political observers have anticipated a break from the modern tradition of nominating federal circuit judges to the court.
In light of the political upheaval erupting around the process, Doug Gansler of BuckleySandler LLP, Maryland’s former attorney general, said it might be prudent for Obama to choose a sitting Democratic senator with good rapport with Republicans on the Hill, or, as he put it, someone “within the club.”
Gansler, as have others, suggested Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who was elected Hennepin County attorney in 1998 and sits on the Judiciary Committee.
