Tom Sporkin Quoted in Wall Street Journal Article, "SEC Breaks Record for Number of Enforcement Cases"
October 11, 2016
Tom Sporkin was quoted on October 11, 2016 in a Wall Street Journal article regarding a new SEC record for enforcement cases it has brought. The article reported, “The metric is seen by some within the agency as a superficial measure of the agency’s success, but SEC leaders routinely use it as a tool in their public-relations efforts and to lobby Congress for extra funding.”
Sporkin spoke regarding the agency’s “superficial measure of success” noting, the “mark of success might actually be better reflected by those [case] numbers going down.” He further elaborated: “The hope would be that Wall Street responded to years of aggressive enforcement by becoming more compliant with securities laws.”
