Amanjot ("A.J.") Singh Dhaliwal is an associate in the Washington, DC, office of BuckleySandler LLP. He assists clients in the financial services industry, primarily in government enforcement, regulatory and compliance matters, and counsels clients on federal laws including Consumer Financial Protection Act, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the Fair Housing Act, the Truth in Lending Act, the False Claims Act, FIRREA and Qui Tam litigation.
Before joining BuckleySandler, Mr. Dhaliwal was an attorney at two major law firms handling a variety of enforcement and litigation matters, including complex commercial, health care, and products liability matters, and government investigations. His experience includes representing an international chemicals corporation in an FCPA government enforcement action involving the DOJ, SEC, and foreign enforcement agencies, and an international medical device manufacturing corporation in a DOJ investigation.
Mr. Dhaliwal is a past president of the South Asian Bar Association of Washington DC (SABA-DC). He is heavily involved in the organization’s efforts to promote the professional development of South Asian American lawyers and law students, increase awareness and dialogue about legal issues of concern to South Asian Americans, and increase access to pro bono legal services for the South Asian American community. SABA-DC has advocated for South Asian Americans who have been the target of hate crimes and bias-related incidents. SABA-DC helped design the first Convenience Store Outreach Project, a nationwide legal education and compliance program informing South Asian convenience store owners and operators on laws applicable to sale of over-the-counter cold medications.
Mr. Dhaliwal received his LL.M. from The George Washington University Law School, where he focused on international business transactions and trade law. He completed his thesis on a prospective US-India bilateral investment treaty that addressed the two countries’ foreign direct investment practices. Mr. Dhaliwal earned his J.D. from Western New England University School of Law in 2007. He has been a summer associate with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and interned with the Honorable Patricia T. Poehler of the District Court of Eastern Hampden (MA). He received his B.A. from Simon Fraser University in Canada.
