Katherine L. Halliday is an associate in the Washington, DC, office of BuckleySandler LLP. Ms. Halliday represents financial services industry clients in a wide range of litigation matters, including class actions and government enforcement matters. She has represented clients in matters involving the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and numerous federal and state courts. Ms. Halliday’s recent representations include:

  • Defending a lender placed insurance provider in multiple putative class actions;
  • Defending class action lawsuits and putative class actions lawsuits alleging unfair and deceptive business practices, fraud, conspiracy, and violations of federal laws including the Truth in Lending Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act;
  • Representing a bank in ongoing False Claims Act investigation by DOJ, various U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, HUD, concerning compliance with the Federal Housing Administration’s (FHA) Direct Endorsement Lender program guidelines;
  • Representing a bank in ongoing FIRREA investigation by DOJ and various U.S. Attorneys’ Offices regarding auto lending; and
  • Numerous CFPB enforcement matters, including investigation of mortgage servicing practices.

Prior to joining BuckleySandler, Ms. Halliday clerked for the Honorable Deborah K. Chasanow in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.  Before her clerkship, she was a litigation associate at WilmerHale, assisting with commercial litigation, criminal investigations, and pro bono matters.

Ms. Halliday received her J.D. from George Washington University (with Highest Honors, Order of the Coif) in 2008. During law school, she was Notes Editor of The George Washington Law Review. Ms. Halliday received her A.B. from Duke University in 2004.
