Biography

Scott T. Sakiyama is an associate in the Chicago office of BuckleySandler LLP.  He represents financial services industry clients in a wide range of enforcement and litigation matters.  He has experience with all phases of litigation and has deposed multiple witnesses and examined witnesses during a jury trial and arbitration hearing. Mr. Sakiyama is a member of the Trial Bar in the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Sakiyama’s recent representations include:

  • Defending mortgage servicers and lender-placed insurance providers in numerous putative class actions regarding lender-placed insurance practices
  • Defending a pharmaceutical CFO in putative securities class action
  • A student lender in a CFPB investigation of its practices
  • Defending correspondent lenders in lawsuits brought by liquidating trust of bankrupt securitizer alleging breach of contract and indemnification based on purported defects in mortgage loans

Prior to joining BuckleySandler, Mr. Sakiyama was a litigation associate at an AmLaw 100 firm. During law school, he interned for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Missouri.  Pro bono work and community involvement is an important focus for Mr. Sakiyama, who volunteers his time with Boys Hope Girls Hope of Illinois, Inc. and the Chicago Bar Foundation.  He successfully first-chaired a pro bono jury trial which secured 100% of the damages his client sought and was part of a team that successfully pursued post-conviction petition relief for a client that had been wrongfully imprisoned for nearly 20 years. 

Mr. Sakiyama received his J.D. from Washington University in 2010 (magna cum laude, Order of the Coif). During law school, he served as Chief Articles Editor for the Washington University Law Review and was awarded the Jack Garden Humanitarian Award for his contributions to the school’s community. Mr. Sakiyama received his B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University in 2002.
